First snowfall and an abandoned building in Portlock, along the Huron Central Railway (mile 149.14)- -about 50 km east of Sault Ste. Marie. Currently Portlock is only a place name in rural Johnson Township: 2011 population 750, established 1889. Portlock was probably named after nearby Port Lock Harbour on Lake Huron- -a port operating in the mid 1800’s.
