dam, little rapids, ontario

At this site on the Little Thessalon River in 1879, Thomas Holcombe built a water powered grist mill. In 1890(?), Holcombe built an adjacent sawmill; soon thereafter, the village of Little Rapids was established. The grist mill and sawmill were destroyed by fire in 1920. The Little Rapids dam was probably built in the early 1900’s and is used to control water. Little Rapids lies within Huron Shores township; in 2011, Huron Shores population was 1723.
