The dark side of the rainbow....
Lewes, DE
Last night I headed to the beach to watch the sunset. It had been a day of rain, thunder and heavy clouds. The sky started to break up after dinner and looked much better an hour before sunset. As I headed out, I noticed a bright rainbow off to the south. I drove around for a few minutes looking for the perfect spot to shoot. Nothing really interested me so I pulled over at a corn field to take a couple of shots. As I got out of my car, I realized both ends of the rainbow were visible. It was the largest, brightest and clearest rainbow I had ever seen. It was so big that I could not fit the entire rainbow in my viewfinder. After I got back in my car and headed east on Route 9, toward the Coastal Highway, the left end of the rainbow had crashed into the road in front of me. There were cars pulled over on both sides of the road as far as the eye could see. It was pouring rain and yet the sun was shining so brightly. I snapped a bunch of pics, got soaked and never made it to the beach....and that's ok!
