Former Mokpo Branch of Oriental Development Company

Beautiful Renaissance-style building, built in 1923, was the Mokpo headquarters of the Oriental Development Company, Japan's answer to the British East India Company. Played a key role in Japan's colonization of Korea. Interestingly, it's the largest of South Korea's remaining former Oriental Development Company offices. Was owned by the Navy for some time, and under threat of destruction, but reason prevailed and the building now serves as Mokpo Modern History Museum.

Jeollanam-do Historical Monument No. 174.
