Siren Multirole Strike Craft

The Siren is a twin engine multirole strike craft in service with the Alliance Navy. In its two seat configuration, the aircraft is a powerful electronic warfare platform, capable of suppressing enemy communications and surveillance.

The Siren was developed in competition with the aircraft that would become the

Kobold multirole fighter. As such, it features many of the same design choices: dual engines, folding wings, and a compact airframe more suitable for smaller vessels. However, one key difference is the ability of the Siren to comfortably support a second crew member in a tandem cockpit, which is impossible with the Kobold’s frame. As such, Alliance planners ended up accepting both designs, purchasing large quantities of the dual-seat Siren for electronic warfare and surveillance roles where a second crew member is needed to balance workload and increase capability. Additionally, the Siren is heavier and carries a larger maximum payload capacity, but is also slower and has a larger radar cross section than the Kobold. This lends the Siren well to supporting ground forces, while the Kobold is a better dogfighter.

Featuring a more powerful Sensing, Countermeasures, and Electronic Warfare (SCEW) suite than any comparably sized aircraft in inventory, the Siren is well regarded for its ability to suppress radar and multispectral scanning over a wide area. In fact, although the Siren is not a particularly stealthy fighter it is so effective at jamming hostile weapons that it is an effective Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) strike craft, leading to some some units adopting unofficial mottos like “You don't have to hide if you block their eyes” and “Sir, there appears to be a small moon approaching our position at Mach 1.6”
