The Graz is also used as the basis of several elements of the Tempest long-range air defense system. The Tempest is the Federation of Planets’ counterpart to the Alliance HMGRD system, with a greater focus on long range deterrence and anti-ship/space denial strike capabilities. In addition to the GRU-103 anti-ship missile the system utilizes the GRU-201 long range surface to air missile, allowing for extended range interception of munitions, low altitude satellites or spacecraft, and aircraft. The GRU-201 possesses a proximity detonation gymballing dual stage shaped charge warhead, able to detect and deliver fatal damage even to relatively heavily armored craft such as the Galaxy heavy dropships of the Alliance Navy.
