The Aurora Class is the Alliance’s answer to the problem of how to rapidly deploy forces on the scale required by planetary invasions. The vessel is capable of carrying an entire Mobile Infantry Mechanized Division for short periods, or of sustaining approximately half a division for an extended duration. The class is defined by the three large open-vacuum hangar bays located amidships, each carrying one of the 3 embarked Hercules Class Mass Carriers.
At 76 meters long and nearly 100 wide, the Hercules Class, affectionately referred to by many as the "Flying Flounder" due to its awkward proportions, is the largest and most common Mass Carrier available to the Alliance Military. The Hercules was designed from the start to be the premier solution to moving men and materials to and from orbit, and is easily large and capable enough to be classified as a small frigate. Such capabilities are required to support the colossal logistical requirements of orbit to surface operations on a massive scale.
The Aurora also sports considerable secondary flight facilities and a large open-vacuum flight blister, capable of supporting 1-2 Fighter wings, dropship wings, and/or bomber wings both to protect the ship and to support the deployed ground force. While not intended for frontline ship-to-ship combat, the Aurora is far from defenseless featuring 2 single-barrel superheavy railgun turrets, 24 torpedo tubes, and 8 dual-barrel heavy macro turrets.
