Glenwhilly 110921 3739
Stranraer Excursion 11 September 2021. This view is of Dirniemow Bridge over the Cross Water of Luce, just south of the former station at Glenwhiily, Dumfries & Galloway. Although the station closed to passengers on 6 September 1965, the signal box (and indeed the platforms) survives to control the only place where trains can cross in the 26 miles between Barrhill and Stranraer.
The photo was taken from a Pathfinder Tours special excursion train from the West Midlands to Stranraer, taking passengers to travel through this remote and little visited part of Scotland. The excursion was returning from Stranraer to Ayr and was waiting for entry to the passing loop to cross the service train from Ayr to Stranraer.
