Duncraig Castle, overlooking Plockton Harbour on Easter Sunday 2017. The castle was built in 1866 for Alexander Matheson, who made his fortune as a drug pusher, trading opium in the Far East. After time as a college, it is now a bed-and-breakfast establishment.
As can be seen, the railway runs along the shoreline on its way across Scotland from Dingwall in the east to the famed Kyle of Lochalsh. This particular train is a rare visitor to the line as it only traverses the line a couple of times a year to check the state of the rails and the gauging, i.e. to check that any movement of the trackbed or of lineside structures is within tolerance. The former is of great relevance given the number of landslips and rock falls over the years between here and Strathcarron. Perhaps the Overhead Line Inspection vehicle is a bit superfluous here.
