Zootopia at the El Capitan Theatre - 2016-03-05 - El Capitan Theatre Stage - Show Before Movie - Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde Dancing #6
The stage of the El Capitan Theatre. Live show before the movie. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde face characters dancing.
I saw Zootopia at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California this afternoon. It was mostly cloudy and in the 60s. I arrived a couple of hours early to make sure I avoided midday traffic, and to pick up my VIP Zootopia pin from GSF. I also got three OE pins from the store: Ariel, Ursula and King Candy (all $8.95). As I expected, they were sold out of the LE Zootopia marquee and Judy Hopps pins. Since I arrived so early I had time to roam Hollywood Boulevard, and take a few photos of stars on the Walk of Fame.
They let us in the theatre doors about a half hour before the 1 pm showing. I went downstairs to see the Zootopia exhibit. It consisted of photos and artwork on the development of the movie. In the lobby there was large statues of Judy and Nick, which were also there during the showing on Tangled a couple of weeks ago.
Before the movie, there was a showing of animals from the Wildlife Learning Center of Sylmar, California. There was a domestic rabbit, a red fox, and a sloth. The most interesting was Lola the two-toed sloth, who was hanging from the limbs of a tree. We learned that her fur turns green due to algae for camouflage. She moves 6 feet a minute on the ground, but 10 feet a minute in trees.
Then we were entertained by dancing Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde characters in costume. Then entered the theatre from the front entrance, ran down the aisles, and went on the stage and danced for a few minutes, then ran back down the aisles. I got to high five Nick as he ran past me.
Finally we saw the movie, which was very entertaining. There were lots of funny moments, and also moving ones. I love the Judy Hopps character even more after seeing the movie.
