if the rasp and rattle

of the raven's call

sounds like scolding

or the caw caw caw

of the perched crow

atop the quaking aspen grove

sounds like being told off

maybe it is a sermon

a statement of fact

that I am not as wise,

as superior, as sovereign

as I was raised to think?
