Nacreous Sunset

Was in two minds as to whether or not this was nacreous cloud, mainly due to the lack of iridescence, but observations for elsewhere and the cloud structure and movement suggest that it probably is. I had been monitoring the stratosphere temperature forecast (30 Hpa) over the last week, and identified Tuesday the 3rd as the most likely day when they might form, with temperatures expected to be close to minus 85 C. Nacreous clouds are a pretty rare winter clouds over the UK , forming at around 50,000-80,000 feet 2-3 times as high as cirrus clouds, and are most notable for there pearlescent colours, that can persist briefly after sunset.

The Nacreous clouds in this shot are the white clouds above the Mither Tap, with the cirrus showing up in the usual sunset pink
