When you talk to many adults, You will find that a majority of them will say that they had never had a drink of coffee until college. However, when speaking to young adults today, it is shocking just how many of them drink coffee on a regular basis. They drink it to keep themselves awake to work or study for exams, or when they simply haven't had enough sleep. Consuming an excess of caffeine however, can cause health problems such as anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure and dizziness and it is very easy to get addicted to, without even knowing it. Your body becomes dependant on caffeine and when it does not get a sufficient amount, one may feel symptoms of withdrawal which include headaches, irritability, lack of concentration and a host of other symptoms as well. It is easier for youth to be affected by caffeine and are more susceptible to the health ailments caused by the consumption of it. This is concerning as the age that youth are starting to consume caffeine is becoming younger and younger with every passing year. We need to start learning to replace caffeinated drinks with healthier options and learn to drink coffee in moderation.
