Meeting the Rescue Crew

After the flood, the EMQ choper team were having a real trouble coming to terms with the amount of people they weren't able to save. To help them understand how many they did actually save, a mini-bus from Grantham went to visit the team at Archerfield.

Before our rescue in January, this particular harness had never been used before outside of training. Here Lachy is being shown how Mark, or T-Bag as we know him, pulled him up from the roof. Lachy was actually the first person rescued in Grantham. He was only three then, he's just turned 4.

It was amazing to watch the helicopter hover and Mark come down the line. He was like an eagle. He pointed to Lachy and then next thing he cuddles him up like a baby and off he goes. Two seconds later he's back for Lachy's brother Liam. Neither of them said a word or cried at all during the event.

Before this day, Liam and Lachy hadn't been saying much. They both improved so much from this day.

This opportunity to relive his experience inspired him. Lachy is now training to be a helicopter pilot. He's always wanted to be in the army but now he wants to rescue people.
