Day 566 - Day 201

“Don't let the sun go down on me. Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see…”

Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me: Elton John, Live In Australia

This song gained much popularity when George Michael re-did this in the early nineties. I can’t say that his version was necessarily bad, but it was not the version that really inspired me. I heard a song from this album on the radio when I was at summer camp, so when I got home I bought the album and found many wonderful discoveries. I’ve always been a fan of live albums, and this is one of the great ones in my collection.

The thing about this song is that there really are so many beautiful lines in here that would have been easy to portray visually, but being in Yellowstone that was a bit of a challenge. I love the build up and emotion in this song- how the music intertwines with the words. Elton really picked the best song to close his show with!

*** Artist Notes ***

The sun going down over mountains in West Yellowstone.

Lyrics:

I can't light no more of your darkness

All my pictures seem to fade to black and white

I'm growing tired and time stands still before me

Frozen here on the ladder of my life

Too late to save myself from falling

I took a chance and changed your way of life

But you misread my meaning when I met you

Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Don't let the sun go down on me

Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see

I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free

But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

I can't find, oh the right romantic line

But see me once and see the way I feel

Don't discard me just because you think I mean you harm

But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal
