Day 423 - Day 058
“Waiting for a sign to smash the silence with the brick of self control.”
She: Green Day, Dookie
As with most of the Green Day songs, this is a “get up and dance, smash and thrash” song. So many of their songs are like this, and performed live – they are electric: even more so than on the albums. This album came out in an awesome time of my life, and I have so many memories with the songs on this album.
This song was a favorite of a friend of mine that I spent the summer of 95 with. She and a bunch of us would hang out all day and night, go to school in the morning… and start it all over again at 11:00am. Basically it was a 16 hour party/fun time, 4 hours of sleep, and 4 hours of school every day. We went all over the city doing whatever came to us- we cooked dinners, watched movies, swam in the river at 2:00 in the morning, and watched the fire flies light up the Texas Hill Country. Every day was a new adventure, and every day I felt more alive. It was one of the best summers of my life, and I felt so alive… but inside- emotionally, I was dying.
This song was a pick me up- not so much for the words or even the music but because every time this song came on my friend would grab a spatula and run around the apartment singing into it- and it always made me laugh because I was always duped into the karaoke spatula performance. We had so much fun laughing and joking- it’s a shame that all had to come to an end.
I miss my friend. I miss spatula karaoke. Rest in peace my beautiful friend… you are forever dancing on the stage of memory!

Lyrics:
She
She screams in silence.
A sullen riot penetrating through her mind.
Waiting for a sign to smash the silence with the brick of self control.
Are you locked up in a world that's been planned out for you?
Are you feeling like a social tool without a use?
Scream at me until my ears bleed.
I'm taking heed in just for you.
She
She's figured out all her doubts were someone else's point of view.
Waking up this time to smash the silence with the brick of self control.
Are you locked up in a world that's been planned out for you?
Are you feeling like a social tool without a use?
Scream at me until my ears bleed.
I'm taking heed in just for you.
