Vinland was a coastal region of North America explored by Vikings. Leif Erikson landed there around 1000 AD, almost five centuries before the voyages of Christopher Columbus. The name appears in the Vinland sagas, written in the early 13th century, which recount the stories of the Saga of the Greenlanders and the Saga of Erik the Red.
