Wout van Aert (bottom of the screen) had a heavy and dramatic fall on the Ninoofsesteenweg in Dwars door Vlaanderen on Wednesday. End of spring for the Belgian. He suffered several fractures. Broken shoulder bone, some ribs and a crack in the sternum.
At 67 km from the line a crash in the peloton with Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike), Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek, also broken collarbone) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) as the main victims. All three had to abandon. Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) was also involved, but the Dane was able to resume the race. That crash tore the peloton completely apart.
The straight and wide sttreet called the Ninoofsesteenweg claimed countless victims in Across Flanders aka Dwars door Vlaanderen, including the Belgian favorites Wout van Aert and Jasper Stuyven. The track is no longer included in the Tour of Flanders on March 31, after a serious crash occurred at the same location in 2023. The slightest steering error is indeed enough for a serious crash...
