2023 VUELTA Not at home during the queen stage...
Remco's complete off day...
Friday, September 8: Stage 13: Formigal/Huesca la Magia - Col du Tourmalet, 134.7 km
REMCO EVENEPOEL (2000) suffered a serious blow away in the big queen stage of the Vuelta. At the top of the iconic Tourmalet he finished 27 minutes behind Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard. It was already at the Aubisque that the lights went out for Remco. Bye-bye ranking ambitions. On the picture above he crosses the finish line in 60th place in the company of teammate MATTIA CATTANEO. The deficit did give a distorted picture because he had let it all go on the flanks of the Tourmalet. He apologized profusely to his teammates for this: "Sorry, sorry, guys!" But that's not even necessary. It was clear, Evenepoel had a bad day, the worst of his still young career. That can happen to great champions... and certainly doesn't have to be a drama for the future.
