1937 GIRO The great Legnano team

LEGNANO was an Italian professional cycling team active from 1906 to 1966. It is ranked as the 5th most successful cycling team in cycling history. Many famous cyclists rode for the team including Alfredo Binda, Learco Guerra, Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi. The team participated in the Giro d'Italia 46 times and it was sponsored by Italian bicycle motorcycle manufacturer Legnano.

 

Saturday, May 8, Milano - The LEGNANO team - green jersey with red sleeves - at the breakfast table just before the start of the 25th GIRO D'Italia.

Leader GINO BARTALI sits on the far left. Bartali won the Giro the year before and would also win the Giro in 1942 (on points) and in 1946. He would win the Tour de France 1938 and 10 years later (still a record!) 1948.

Then follows TOLMINO GIOS, an individual but included in the big Legnano team for the Giro. After his career he founded the Gios company in 1948 with the production of bicycles in a small workshop, later continued by his sons.

PIERINO FAVALLI is a helper and the later winner of three consecutive Milano-Torino, 1938-1940.

LEARCO GUERRA was a famous time trialist and won the Giro in 1934 and was world champion in 1931.

FABIO BATTESTINI, also a helper, who won some stages in the two Grand Tours.

GIOVANNI CAZZULANI (no written name) was a helper. The 1936 Tour of Tuscany is on his palmares.

ADOLINO MEALLI, helper and winner of stages in some small stage races.

RAFFAELE DI PACO sits opposite Bartali. Di Paco was primarily a stage privateer. He won a total of 26 in the Giro and Tour respectively!
