EMPTY SKYis the debut album by ELTON JOHN, released on 6 June 1969. It was FINALLY released in the US in January 1975, with a different cover photograph, well after John's fame had been established internationally.
The lyrics are written by BERNIE TAUPIN.
"... EMPTY SKY was recorded with a great deal of love and much sweat but with no desperation at all. In those days the name ELTON JOHN comprised only Elton and Bernie and in that sense this album offers a brilliantly clear insight into what they were like as people. There was no image, no ornate production, nothing in fact except the remarkable melodies, the remarkable lyrics, and that remarkable voice. It was done quickly, at DICK JAMES' then thin recording studios in what Elton once laughingly termed 'pseudo-stereo'... "
