Southern Green Shieldbug - Nezara viridula
Fifth instar shown here. Adult is overall dull green with red or black eyes. Can be found in gardens, parks, allotments and waste ground feeding on plants that will include tomatoes and runner beans. This species of shiedlbug was accidentally imported in fruit and vegetables and is a relative newcomer in the UK fauna and was first recorded breeding in London in 2003. Rare at present but may easily spread. Native to Ethiopia and most likely to be seen in the UK from Mat to September.
