Sad Derelict
This abandoned small two-room building can be found just off the A835 in Elphin in the Scottish Highlands. It features in many photographs of the region, often with the mountain of Suilven featuring in the distance. There was no chance of that when we passed by - those low-lying background clouds above were being driven across the area by a strong wind and were delivering heavy bursts of rain, which restarted just as I took this shot.
We were told that the owners of the bothy, who live just down the road, call it the 'dog house' but a clearer explanation as to why was not available.
Elphin (Scottish Gaelic: Ailbhinn) is a crofting township in Assynt, in the Sutherland area of Highland in Scotland. It lies some 24 km north of Ullapool. The village contains a tearoom, and several bed and breakfasts.
It looks much more cheery and welcoming in colour than it does in monochrome...
