P158 Mysing
A Swedish Hugin-class guided-missile patrol boat, seen in the eastern Baltic, just off the port of Liepaya in what was then part of the Soviet Union but is now Latvia. She was leading a group of several Hugins.
The Hugins were 150 ton, 35 knot guided-missile patrol boats that could carry up to six Penguin surface-to-surface missiles (Swedish RB-12s). Mounted on the bow was a 57mm gun. The launchers on either side of the gun mount were for 103mm rocket flare launchers.
Each Hugin was 36.5m long, 6.2m in the beam and had a draught of 1.6m. They were manned by a crew of three officers and 19 men. Interestingly, their diesel engines were retreads, having previously been used in Plejad-class torpedo boats.
Mysing was retired from service in 1995 after just 15 years' active service.
Taken from aboard HMS Boxer.
