Streamlined Cigarette Lighter
Smoking was considered chic during the 1920s and the design of this lighter associates the activity of smoking with notions of progress. It was often as small objects of everyday use that the American consumer first owned something which had been subjected to streamlining.
Whilst the designer is unknown, we do know that the lighter was manufactured by the Art Metal Works Inc. for Ronson, Newark, New Jersey, USA in about 1925.
The lighter is made of a plastic body with chromium-plated steel mounts.
Seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London.
