Boy's dress
Boys, when babies or very young, wore dresses until they were older and more active, when they were then dressed in pants or trousers.
A boy's broderie anglaise dress stitched for George Rayner Fuller, born 3rd April 1898. George was the son of Oliver and Ellen Fuller of Fullerville. The accompanying photograph shows George wearing the dress and matching cape when he was approximately nine months old. The dress is thought to have been made by his grandmother, Elizabeth, his father's mother, an accomplished needlewoman. Broderie anglaise is a form of eyelet embroidery.
