Dragonfly golden ring on the wing Hampshire 3.7.2015 (1)

We have just spent a few days on the new forest for the specific goal of hoping to photograph golden ring dragonflies.

We travelled down from Suffolk on the hottest day of the year and the three days we spent searching for these insects the temperature was in the thirties.

We had some help from the local wildfowl Trust in possible locations but for the first two days we saw nothing but on the third day we glimpsed one flying past at speed along a trickle of a stream crossing the open forest.

We simply sat and waited partly because it was too hot to walk and we were rewarded with this one that patrolled his territory and chose to land from time to time on dead vegetation on the opposite side of the steam from where we sat.

My clicking finger went into action seizing the long awaited moment but I am sure that to so many we must appear a rather sad couple doing what we do but we love it and love to share what we see with those who maybe cannot get around as much as they used to do. We are fast catching them up!!!!

This was just a very lucky click, more a click and hope than anything else .
