Self Portrait: Look Mommy there's a person wearing a chicken suit riding a scooter
Artist Statement:
My name is Katie I am in a family of 10 this helps me with my photography since I like including people in my photo’s it helps because there is always someone around. Also I enjoy taking photos of technical things because I like science it explains why I like to take photo like that.
My philosophy for taking a photo is to get a clear and well lit shot that accompanies all that you want to be in the photo. If you do this you can make other adjustments later but one thing you cannot change is the quality of the photo if it is bad you can sharpen the edges but only to a limited effect. You can adjust the lighting in a photo but if something is washed out or covered by shadow you cannot change it so you have to make sure you can see all of the things in the photo. Making sure that all of the things you want in a photo is very important. You can cut stuff out with cropping but one thing you cannot do is add to something that is cut off. This is what helps me to get good photos.
My self-portrait is me dressed in a chicken costume riding a little scooter called the flying turtle. My alter ego is me dressed in a tight dress reading a chick novel. I picked these two contradictions because I am a contradictory person for example I like ketchup but not tomatoes it just makes no sense to people. I mainly picked the chicken suit because I am truly unique and just an overall strange person and I am perfectly ok with that so I used the chicken suit to show just how strange I am like when I get bored I put on the chicken suit to make life more exciting so it seemed natural to me to do that for my self-portrait. For my alter ego I picked that picture because that is a completely different side of me I do not like to dress like that or read books like that and it makes life much more boring. I can’t even put on that much make up I was practically crying the makeup was so bad to put on with all the poking in my eyes and stuff. Overall, I picked these two pictures the self-portrait to show my true self the alter ego to show you exactly what I am not, i am a major contradiction
