Ssssmmmokin'!!!!
Union Pacific's "Big Boy" 4014 steam locomotive puts on the power as it backs towards it's display track in West Chicago in the summer of 2019. This began a 3-day layover in West Chicago, IL as part of the nationwide tour celebrating the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. West Chicago became quite the center of activity, as an estimated 45,000(!!!) people came out to see the largest steam locomotive back in service. That's nearly double the town's native population! The crowd lining both sides of the railroad tracks is indicative of just how many people in the entire Chicagoland area came out to see 4014. In the background is the former CNW West Chicago depot. The depot replaced an earlier one and is now a community center.
