The Big Boy Cometh

The only word that could even begin to describe the Union Pacific's 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" 4014 steam locomotive, as it toured the Midwest in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the completion of the the Transcontinental Railroad in Summer 2019. Here it is rounding the curve on the former Chicago & Northwestern mainline in Wheaton and passes under the former Chicago, Aurora, & Elgin interurban bridge, which used to call Wheaton home. The Big Boy was headed for a 3-day layover in West Chicago, a few miles to the west. A massive crowd gathered here, as it did everywhere it went in Illinois.
