We got up at 3AM on Saturday morning to make the 4 hour drive to Abraham Lake for the sunrise. It snowed pretty much all the way up there and when we arrived the lake was covered with layer of snow. It was very hard to find a place to park our car to get to the ice (it was our first ever trip to this area) so we've decided to drive past it and found a parking spot on the river bank instead. It was freezing cold (temp w/o windchill dropped to below -30oC), but thankfully without much wind (a lucky occurrence in those parts, I hear) and we set to wait for the sunrise. Our kids were patiently waiting in the vehicle, not willing to venture in this cold for too long. We saw a couple of herds of elk and heard some wolves in the distance, while we were waiting. It was a pleasure to finally see the sun emerging from behind a mountain, for we were turning into icicles ;D. The world was covered in golden glow regardless of the temperature..
