St Clair Beach - Dunedin - New Zealand
Canon 5D MKII - Canon EF L Lens 17-40mm
Old Jetty ruins in St Clair beach , Dunedin NZ. On this day there was not much happening in terms of sunrise or sunset. Mostly cloudy and gloomy, snowing on the hills surrounding Dunedin. So this was taken at sunset. The tide was high and the swell was well up, around 6-8 ft. All the sand had been washed away from around the jetty where i was standing. Sand bags and rocks where all exposed, so getting down there was a little tricky.
As i waited for the right light i grabbed a coffee in one of the cafes up above the beach. I was sitting there thinking that if this was at home and there was this much swell, you wouldn't be able to move in the water. So why was it so empty .......... it was cold ...... it was around 3 degrees and dropping. So happy that i live in a warm tropical part of the world.
I gave this one a little NIK Software treatment ...... Silver Effex. The sky really didn't give much to the original image, it was a bit drab and dull. But the drama and mood of the day surrounding the swell and weather really came to life with the edit. Although i didn't see this in B&W ( obviously ) this is closer to how it all felt while i was there. Hope that makes sense to you.
Anyway .... enough rambling ...... hope you enjoy it :-)
