Emma's Outback Odyssey
3000 kilometres, two passengers and one four wheel drive.
It was on a Sunday in May that Emma's Outback Odyssey began.
3000 kilometres loomed ahead as we began our journey, travelling through the South Australian Outback.
Rural Reporter Brooke Neindorf and I packed the car and set of early, keen on adventure.
Brooke took the first shift behind the wheel as we left the salty air of our Eyre Peninsula coastal community behind us.
We worked out, in transit, that it was the first time for both of us, that we'd travelled north of Port Augusta without sitting in the backseats of a car behind our parents.
The red dirt and scrubby vegetation made us aware that we'd left the green rolling hills of the Peninsula behind us.
I don't know if it's possible, but the red dirt appeared to slowly get redder as we put more kilometres between us and Port Augusta.
Then out of seemingly nowhere, road signs began to emerge like mirages along the highway, encouraging us to turn right into Woomera.
So we obliged, and that's where Emma's Outback Odyssey begins.
