Petita torre Eiffel tombada.
El Pont de Ferro, el Pont de les Peixateries Velles, el pont de Palanques Vermelles o el Pont d'Eiffel és un dels més cridaners de Girona pel seu intens color vermell i l'ús de tant metall, com si fos una petita torre Eiffel tombada.
El pont el va construir l'empresa de Gustave Eiffel el 1876, i va significar un gran avenç pel que fa a la unió i la cohesió de la ciutat, ja que comunica directament el cor de la ciutat antiga amb el de la ciutat nova.

Aquest pont, que travessa l´Onyar des del carrer de Santa Clara i la zona del Mercadal cap a la Rambla de la Llibertat i el carrer de l´Argenteria, ha rebut diversos noms.
El de peixateries velles fa referència al fet que en aquest lloc i durant molts segles van estar les peixateries de la ciutat, o llotja del peix.
També s'ha anomenat aquesta comunicació com les palanques vermelles, fent referència a un pont petit d'aquest color anterior a l'actual.
L'actual construcció es va anomenar pont de ferro, denominació que no va tenir èxit, i es va conservar l'anterior.
