Sant Joan de Caselles.

Església de la parròquia de Canillo (Andorra), de tradició preromànica, situada a 1 560 m alt, damunt un turonet que s’aixeca a la dreta de la Valira d’Encamp, aigua amunt de la població.

 

És un dels edificis cabdals de l'art romànic andorrà.

 

Tot i que l'església és força més antiga, no se'n troben les primeres notícies documentals fins a l'any 1312, quan hom l'esmenta com a depenent de Sant Miquel de Prats, església situada també a la mateixa parròquia de Canillo.

 

El lloc de Caselles és esmentat molt abans, el 1162.

Saint John of Caselles.

Church of the parish of Canillo (Andorra), of pre-Romanesque tradition, located at 1,560 m high, on top of a small hill that rises to the right of the Valira d'Encamp, upstream of the town.

 

It is one of the key buildings of Andorran Romanesque art.

 

Although the church is much older, the first documentary news about it is not found until 1312, when it is mentioned as dependent on Sant Miquel de Prats, a church also located in the same parish of Canillo .

 

The place of Caselles is mentioned much earlier, in 1162.
