El gavià argentat de pota groga, és sens dubte l'au més abundant a les illes, on forma una colònia de les més nombroses de la Mediterrània.
El nombre de parelles establertes al conjunt dels illots de
les Medes es podria elevar a poc mes de 14.000
La població de gavià argentat ha suposat
l'efecte negatiu en les aigües de l'estany de Banyoles,
la incidència i important concentració en determinats
abocadors ja de per si polèmics (Besalú, Pedret i Marzà) o la seva hipotètica repercussió sobre altres especies
d'ocells, han convertit els gavians argentats en
aus de no massa bon veure als ulls deis humans.
