Door to Bok Tower
Decorative metalwork at the Tower's base is the beautiful work of famed metalworker, Samuel Yellin. On a four-inch-thick door of teakwood, Yellin laid on sheets of yellow brass as near to the color of gold as possible, and in repousse depicted the Genesis story of creation. Thirty square panels represent the creation of heaven and earth, separation of land and water, creation of trees, fruit, light, birds, fishes and animals, and the Garden of Eden, culminating in the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden. Yellin used golden material for his door because, "The six days of creation should be presented in a golden blaze of color." The inner surface of the door has panels but no pictures.
