Olympic torch relay passes Hampshire Record Office, 11 Jul 2012

Earlier this month the 2012 Olympic flame made its way past Hampshire Record Office and was greeted by enthusiastic crowds.

A free exhibition 'The Olympics in Hampshire' is on display at Hampshire Record Office until 1 September. It covers Olympians and Paralympians with Hampshire links, venues in Hampshire used for the 1908 and 1948 Games and gives further information on the Olympic torch route through Hampshire in 1948. On view: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm (also until 7pm on Thursdays) Saturday 9am-4pm (closed 4 and 27 August).

There is also a film show of old sporting footage from the Wessex Film and Sound Archive collections, Healthy exercise and the Competitive spirit: a selection of films celebrating sport in the region on 26 July, 1.15-1.45pm and a lecture, Hampshire and the Olympic Games: a local history of a global event by Dr Martin Polley of Southampton University on 30 August, 1.15-1.45pm. Both events are free and no booking is required
