Kate Gladwell: Yindyamarra: a portrait of Professor Michael McDaniel, 2019 (Archibald Prize finalist, NSWAG, 1 of 2)
Kate Gladwell: Yindyamarra: a portrait of Professor Michael McDaniel, 2019 - one of the finalists for the Archibald Prize, captured at the Art Gallery of NSW (hand held, low light)
One of my favourites in this impressive collection of portrait painting. The eyes have it in this portrait and dominate the feeling - to me he has "no side"* - and I remember the last person I met who had the same feeling eyes (on an island off Qld, a conversation about the relative absence of monarch butterflies). Also I love the twinkle Kate has captured in his face :-)

* 'no side' in the sense of this (although it's weak compared to how we use/ mean it) "Definition of no side to. British, informal. —used to say that someone is not arrogant or pretentious He was a war hero and yet there was no side to him."
