This is John. John was part of a facial hair competition that was held concurrently with my gallery opening in the gallery space of the tasting room at Strange Fellows Brewing in Vancouver. I am currently showing a series of facial hair themed photos that I will be slowly posting over the next few weeks. The brewery allowed me to set up a studio in the back and photograph folks who were donating a minimum amount to the local Movember campaign.
This is shot with three lights. There are two White Lightning Ultra 600s in gridded strip boxes without the faces on each side and slightly behind John. There is an ABR800 ring light pointed backwards into a 6x2.5 ft floor standing tinker tube style softbox directly behind me which you can see in his eyes. I forgot my big light sync cables so I used Pocket Wizards Plus IIs to control an SB 800 at minimum power on the floor inside the softbox to trigger the optical slaves on the big lights.
