At Home in the Water

Me at Ship Creek (which is fuller and faster than I ave ever seen it) in North Anchorage, Alaska. The Dena'ina Athabascan word for the Anchorage area, Deghaytnu, refers specifically to the area around Ship Creek and means, if my memory is correct, something about the place for catching sticklebacks. When I am down here by Ship Creek, I am more aware of the Dena'ina history of this land than usual, which I like.
