We estimate that a third of total consumer spending could become "social." This means that interactions on social platforms--friends recommending products, checking in at stores, sharing reviews, etc.--could influence $940 billion of consumption in the United States and Europe alone. Today, online social influence is greatest in electronics, computer hardware and software, and mobile phones.
