Pleasley Colliery Winding Engine. Pleasley, Notts/Derbys Border.

9.1.2013. This is the third winder to be installed for the south pit and was manufactured by Markhams of Chesterfield in 1922. The winding engine was rated at approx 3000hp and has two 36in by 84in horizontal cylinders fitted with double beat drop valves. The winding drum weighs about 70 tons! As can be seen restoration work is being carried out. Having converted this image to B&W I think it looks a little like a Victorian etching - or is it just me?
