Stockport Viaduct 1988.
March 1988.
My 'homage' to Colin Gifford.
In his book 'and Gone Forever' Plate 110 is of a Class 5 crossing Stockport Viaduct in 1968.
Twenty years later we see a unit crossing the viaduct - nowhere near as good as Colin's but a reseanable comparison.
If you've never seen Gifford's books, I would definitely recommend them - 'Decline of Steam' published in 1965, 'Each a Glimpse' published in 1970 and 'and Gone Forever' published in 1994. All b/w photographs that portray the daily life of the railways.
First editions go for quite a price these days.
