Sowerby Bridge - Mill Town
Nowadays, a market town in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, but
during the 19th century Sowerby Bridge was an important centre for textiles and engineering - the well known firm of Pollit & Wigzell manufactured stationary steam engines for the cotton and wool mills. Wood Brothers, an engineering and millwrights also produced engines from its Valley Iron Works.
The town is at the junction of the Calder & Hebble Navigation and the Rochdale Canal.
