[DC] Partners of the Bat

Okay!

So here are three DC characters commonly associated with Batman, you all know these guys. Since last summer, I've been slowly reading through the entire New 52 Bat-saga and I just recently started Batman & Robin: Eternal. Throughout this time, I've developed a greater appreciation for the New 52 Red Robin costume that a surprisingly large number of people seem to dislike; I think it's clutteredness and gadget-heavy design really fits Tim's modus operandi and I really like how distinctive it looks from the traditional red and green Robin garb. This isn't to say that I don't like his Rebirth outfit - I just think his New 52 one is a better fit to differentiate him from his Robin counterparts, both visually and thematically.

Speaking of Tim Drake as an thematically distinct character, I also recently read a really insightful comment on the DC Comics subreddit about who Tim Drake really is in the context of Dick, Jason, and Damian. The main takeaway was that more than any other Robin, Tim was the first who Batman considered as an equal-footed partner because of his dedication to the core mission of Batman - to inflict justice upon criminals, and to give justice to those who are preyed upon by criminals.

Long story short, I'm starting to have this perspective towards Tim. He was the Robin that I grew up with as a kid and I look forward to seeing where DC will take his character in the future.

Azrael and Bronze Tiger resulted from fiddling with table scraps. I was never 100% happy with my original Azrael (yuge throwback, lol) and after looking at a bunch of semi-conflicting reference images from Knightfall, I finally settled on a white torso with more accurate arms. As for Mr. Turner, I reread the "I Am Suicide" arc from Tom King's Batman, saw Bronze Tiger and a spare dark orange torso in my spare parts pile, and thought why not? I originally intended to make the fig entirely out of dark orange parts, but then it just didn't look right when all the parts were together. But somehow, just adding black legs instantly transformed the fig from a weird Pre-52/New 52 hybrid to a definitive representation of how he looks Post-Flashpoint, besides the fact that the location of his tiger stripes is reversed.

I'll be completely honest - I'm not sure if I have time to shoot for the special mid-April DC thing I mentioned before. And if I do have time, it will probably be late... I don't know, we'll see. I kind of want to make it really visually unique by using a bunch of Photoshop techniques I currently don't know. And I'm toying with the idea of including a TON of figures in the shot, but I've run into so many difficulties in the past when it comes to shooting large groups and still coming out with a good looking photo. I'll write this again as well as other miscellaneous updates in my next post, which has already been shot and is ready to go!
