Help!
I saw this small family on a local pond this morning and was interested to know what they might be. My ability to identify anything but the most common birds is pretty lamentable - but can I assume that the adult is a cross between a Mallard and a "farmyard" duck (do the species interbreed?) and that the 2, very dissimilar, ducklings are just variants one step down the ancestral line? I also presume that this must be a second brood as they are still quite small and we are in August now.
Can anyone confirm that my reasoning is correct?
Thanks!
