Automatic DQ?

Last year we were not able to attend the Newport Chowder Cook-Off, and look what happened this year - no less than three (!) out of the 12 entries in the Clam category were tomato-based rather than cream-based. I can remember a time when this was an AUTOMATIC disqualification. If nothing else, these "chowders" should have been relegated to the Creative category (aka "Variety Chowders")
Of the three, this one was the least egregious. At least it was creamy-tomato, along with a nice smoky taste. But the others were just horrible.
Please note that NONE of the 3 tomato-based chowders finished in the money. Next year I hope they get moved to their proper place, in the Creative category.
