Microchip(company) ref and great DIY electronics ref
Look for the latest edition of, the PICmicro book by Mike Predko, it covers everything from async serial (MIDI) to PS2 keyboards to LCD projects. My edition only covers PIC 16 and 18 series, IMHO pic 16 is outdated, so maby the new version has some info on PIC DSP, PIC 24 or PIC 32 technology, I'm not sure.
"Practical Electronics for Inventors", is about the best book your going to find on *everything* electronics next to "The Art of Electronics" (which is now outdated). It even covers some topics not discussed in depth in The Art of Electronics, like Programmable Uni-junction Transistors. (a kind of transistor specifically made for oscillator circuits - similar to 555 timer).
