Old Coyote
I had to dig out this pen and ink drawing after "Old Coyote" told me that he did not like wolves! I worked exclusively with ink from 1995 - 2001 before turning to watercolors. I see that this was my second year of learning the gestures and methods of ink. This was done entirely with a very small brush. I never worked with pencil lines because I wanted to learn brush facility with a certain degree of freedom. (About 10 x10 inches on a smooth drawing paper. The model was from a wildlife magazine.) Although we do have coyotes a stone's throw from where I sit writing this comment, I have never seen one. I saw my first fox in a grove a couple of years ago, although they too are abundant. The coyotes are kind of new to this part of Minnesota, but their numbers are increasing I hear.)
